Summer 2020- As protests kicked off nationwide in response to the murders of Black people, boards went up to protect business properties in the East Bay and the arts community rallied create amongst the chaos. It was uplifting to see and be a part of. I partnered with an organization, Paint the Void, to do a mural in San Francisco on the hotel restaurant of Puccini and Pinetti.

When it comes to painting my abstract style in murals my primary goal is to bless the space (people walking past my work in the streets) with beauty and positive energy. My choice of colors and symbols are a message to people dealing with the trauma of witnessing harm and death to black bodies. Rember the past, move forward with God, and keep creating.

While painting in the Tenderloin neighborhood of SF you are going to see some shit. And by shit I mean human fecle matter. It happens. This neighborhood is a wild place… especially during the Corona lockdown. Zombie apocalypse vibes if you know what I mean. Amongst the savory cast of characters I encountered in my week or so of painting (and believe me there were some real characters), I met a photographer and all around kool guy who blessed me with most of the shots featured on this page. Go ahead and check out his ig at @dougsland_photography.
